Your Olive Grove passkey

Anything you choose to keep online is locked on your computer before it is sent, with a key only you hold. Three things can open that key: a device you approved, a passkey, and your recovery code. Losing one of them never loses your records.

    What this passkey protects

The Olive Grove passkey in your password manager opens your practice on a new computer or browser, with your fingerprint, face, PIN or phone. Please do not delete it: if it is your only way back in, deleting it can lock you out of the records you keep online.

Save it where it follows you, so it survives a lost computer: Google Password Manager, iCloud Keychain or your phone. You can add more than one, from Settings in Olive Grove online.

Some password managers cannot unlock a practice. Olive Grove tells you when that happens and keeps nothing; your computers can still allow new devices.

    Adding a computer or browser

Sign in on the new computer or browser. With a passkey, choose Use my passkey: that is all. Otherwise Olive Grove on a computer you already use asks "Allow … to open your practice?": press Allow. A browser on a computer where Olive Grove is already set up is allowed by itself.

    Your recovery code

Your recovery code is the last resort, for the day every computer, browser and passkey is lost. Your practice has one code, for sync and for cloud backups. Nobody else has it, not even Olive Grove, so it cannot be recovered for you.

Keep it one of two ways, from Settings, Devices and sync in Olive Grove: print the recovery sheet (the code and a QR code) and file it with your practice records, or save it to your password manager. While any of your devices works, you can make a new code there; the old one then stops working.

    If a computer is lost

On any device you still have, open Settings, Devices and choose Lost or stolen next to it. It is refused at once and a new key locks everything sent after that. Then sign in on the replacement and open your practice with a passkey, Allow from another device, or your recovery code.
